The second, much-improved season of “The Bear” was defined by a sense of momentum. Its 10 episodes were transitional in a literal sense, taking the FX half-hour from the closure of a family-owned Italian beef shop in Chicago’s River North to the opening of a fine dining concept in the same space.

Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello says new solo album will help him have more “purity” in his work than with a band

Tom Morello has revealed that working on his upcoming solo album has offered him more “purity” in his work than with a band.In an interview with NME, the Rage Against the Machine guitarist reflected on striking out solo – not least, with the forthcoming release of his single ‘Soldier In The Army Of Love’.“I’ve done a number of solo records before, but I love the idea of being in a band because what you get out of being in a band is chemistry,” he said. “Together you create something that none of you could create alone.”“What you get out of being a solo artist is purity and being able to create something that no one else would be able to create.”Elsewhere in the interview, Morello stated that the upcoming album will be his “first straight-up rock and roll record with my name on it”.“I was just letting the music lead the way and the songs that I was writing with [13-year-old son Roman Morello] were like heavy rock songs,” he adds.

Henry Mancini’s 100th Is a Cause for Celebration, as the Hollywood Bowl Sets Sail Down ‘Moon River’ for Season’s Opening Night

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Before John Williams became the flagship film composer-conductor anyone thought of when they thought about the Hollywood Bowl, that honor belonged to Henry Mancini. And in some years, when Los Angeles is particularly lucky, it still does, even though the scorer behind “The Pink Panther,” “Days of Wine and Roses” and other classic scores has been gone for 30 years now. This Sunday, the LA Phil will devote the Bowl’s traditional opening night to a 100th birthday celebration for the man who, arguably more than any other, turned movie scores into a truly populist artform… and who conducted at the Bowl 29 times.

Day Eating With Seth Meyers: The ‘Late Night’ Host Counts Down His Top 10 Pizza List

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large If you haven’t noticed, we’re in the middle of a media apocalypse. Newspapers are dying, websites that filled that void with top-notch journalism have gone away and the outlets that are left still struggle to attract audiences and make a difference as social media and bad-faith cable networks pollute the public discourse. Thank goodness for the late-night talk shows, many of which are giving us some of the best news analysis and criticism out there — better than any of the hopelessly misguided news outlets that are still trying to report on politics like things are normal.

Mummy’s unearthed coffin features ‘unreal’ depiction of beloved ‘Simpsons’ character

D’oh! The markings on a recently unearthed coffin are being compared to Marge Simpson from Fox’s long-running cartoon “The Simpsons.” The mummy’s resting place was discovered late last year in a 3,500-year-old cemetery in Minya, Egypt, and is believed to belong to senior officials and priests of the New Kingdom from 1550 BC to 1069 BC. Coffins of the time have been found to feature detailed carvings and paintings of the deceased, deities and scenes from the “Book of the Dead,” spells used to assist the dead in the afterlife, according to thearcheologist.org. The upper lid of one of the coffins recently unearthed in Middle Egypt shows a yellow-colored woman, dressed in green clothing and a blue crown, which some have compared to the show’s big-haired matriarch.

Rob Reiner And Albert Brooks On Their Revealing Documentary: Surprising Stories On Kubrick, The Lost Johnny Carson Tapes, And The Iconic Movie Brooks Turned Down – Behind The Lens

When you get the opportunity to interview Rob Reiner and Albert Brooks together it is indeed a special occasion. And that is just what I got to do earlier this week when they joined me at our Deadline Studio for this episode of my Deadline video series, Behind The Lens. Reiner has directed and appears with Brooks in the ultimate documentary (Reiner’s first) on Brooks entitled Albert Brooks: Defending My Life which is available on HBO and MAX, and for fans of both it is a gem not to be missed. Our half hour conversation is not only hilarious in parts, but also eye-opening and full of some very surprising revelations. Check out a 2 minute preview where Brooks explains to me just how he and legendary director Stanley Kubrick became friends when Kubrick geeked out on Brooks’ film, Modern Romance.
