A man has been dragged to court after becoming embroiled in a bitter FIFTEEN-year campaign of abuse to his neighbours that has left them 'like a prisoner in their own home'.
Brendan Murphy, 82, has been locked in the battle with his neighbours, Christopher and Margaret Boyd, for over a decade that has seen the widower fling insults at the couple. The abuse became so bad that Mr and Mrs Boyd had to build a six high foot fence in front of their privet hedge separating the two properties and install a CCTV camera to chronicle his hate campaign against them.
Murphy was eventually given a restraining order against the couple after being taken to court for harassment in 2011 and again in 2015, however last week was hauled into court again after he tried to illegally engage the couple in conversation in August last year when he bumped into them in the street.
Murphy was convicted of breaching a restraining order following a trial and was handed a suspended sentence.
A court heard that Murphy and the Boyd's have been neighbours since 1984 but have been locked in a dispute since 2008, which saw Murphy launch his campaign of abuse and harassment. The court heard Murphy had labelled Mr Boyd a 'peeping Tom'' and his wife a 'tart' after they fell out.
Michael O’Kane, prosecuting at Chester Magistrate's Court, said: “The victims have been neighbours of the defendant since 1984 and Mr and Mrs Boyd have been subject to a campaign of harassment at the hands of the defendant for many years.
