A 'next-level' curry house tucked away in a country pub has been voted the UK's best. Gandhi Indian Restaurant and Takeaway, which operates from of the back of The Hunter pub in Saverley Green, Staffordshire, just over an hour's drive from Manchester, won the top prize at this week's Nation's Curry Awards.
Head chef Mohammed Kamal also won Chef of the Year at last year's awards, Cheshire Live reports. The team were joined by celebrity fan and restaurant regular, Neil 'Nello' Baldwin, the Stoke City legend made famous in Marvellous, the film about his life, at the Manchester awards ceremony held at the Hilton in Beetham Tower.
Manager Mohammed 'Miah' Ali said he was shocked to receive the award. Miah, 53, opened the restaurant 12 years ago.

He said: "I didn’t think we’d win anything. We were the last to get anything — and I just thought we’ve had a lovely time here, a lovely meal, and let’s go home.
"It was very much a surprise. It’s a lot to take in. We’re a small, village restaurant, compared to some of the restaurants in the surrounding area, like in Birmingham, which has got brilliant restaurants."
Miah heaped praise on head chef Mohammed. He added: "His food is artwork. Especially for children; it’s hard to make children eat vegetables, so he makes them into different types of flowers, and they’ll eat it. His food is next-level. I can’t praise it enough."
The front of the venue is a 'traditional farmer's pub', said Miah, with the restaurant to the rear. The restaurant is currently undergoing a refurbishment and expansion, with a bigger kitchen and more seats to meet demand.
