The Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle has been announced as a judge for this year’s National Book Awards, working in the Literature in Translation category. He also shared a new cassette, Songs for Pierre Chuvin. Darnielle posted a cryptic message to Instagram with instructions to text “Cassette” to 31996 for updates on the 10-track tape’s release.

According to a press release, it’s the first time since 2002’s All Hail West Texas that John Darnielle has recorded an album entirely on his boombox.
