Selome Hailu The Roy kids may still be at war with their father, but at least they’ve got the support of the viewing public. The Season 4 premiere brought in 2.3 million viewers on Sunday. This number comes from a combination of Nielsen’s measurement of the episode’s linear viewers on HBO’s cable channel and Warner Bros. Discovery’s first-party data about streams on HBO Max through the night. There’s cause to celebrate for HBO, as 2.3 million marks a 33% improvement from the previous series high, which came when the Season 3 finale achieved 1.7 million viewers in December 2021. And compared to the premiere episode of Season 3, Season 4 returned with 62% more viewers.

Oscars Draw 18.7 Million Viewers, Up 12% From Last Year

BreAnna Bell Viewership was up Sunday when an average of 18.7 million viewers tuned in to see “Everything Everywhere All at Once” earn best picture honors and dominate the 95th Oscars on ABC with seven wins. That’s according to early, time zone-adjusted ratings from Nielsen, which includes out-of-home viewing — but keep in mind, that number could change when the final nationals are in. The Oscars, which repped the return of host Jimmy Kimmel for the first time since 2018, was up 12% from last year’s ratings. And according to those time-zone-adjusted fast-national numbers from Nielsen, it bested the previous year’s 3.8 rating by 5% in key adults 18-49, earning a 4.0 in the demo.

‘The Last of Us’ Used Real, Trained Giraffes and an Abandoned Hospital in Season Finale

Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor SPOILER ALERT: This contains spoilers from the Season 1 finale of “The Last of Us,” now streaming on HBO Max. Sunday’s season finale of “The Last of Us” tackled two of the video games most famous scenes: the giraffe moment and the final hospital shootout. Joel (Pedro Pascal) shoots his way through the Salt Lake City hospital as he upholds his commitment to saving Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and chooses her life over the future of humanity. In the final minutes of the episode, Joel decides to take Ellie away from the hospital, where her immunity to the deadly cordyceps fungus could’ve provided a cure, but in performing the operation, she would’ve died. Amid a hail of bullets from Firefly soldiers, Joel makes his choice to take Ellie back to Jackson, Wyo., and massacres nearly everyone in the hospital.

‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Will Have ‘A Lot More Infected,’ Creators Address Complaints About Lack of Action

Jordan Moreau SPOILER ALERT: This interview contains spoilers from the Season 1 finale of “The Last of Us,” now streaming on HBO Max. For a show about a post-apocalyptic world torn apart by a deadly fungus that creates zombie-like creatures, there weren’t a whole lot of zombies in the final episodes of “The Last of Us.” Series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have seen the complaints about the infrequent zombie mayhem in the HBO drama series, but fans can rest assured that Season 2 will have “a lot more infected.” “Ultimately, we generally stressed the power of relationships and trying to find significance within moments of action,” Mazin told reporters during a virtual press conference for “The Last of Us” last week. “And so there may be less action than some people wanted because we couldn’t necessarily find significance for quite a bit of it, or [there was] concern that it would be repetitive. After all, you’re not playing it, you’re watching it. And although a lot of people do like to watch gameplay, it needs to be a little more focused and purposeful when we’re putting it on TV.”

'The Last of Us' Season 1 Finale: Bella Ramsey on Joel's Lie and What's to Come in Season 2 (Exclusive)

is all about the relationship between Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), which made Sunday's season 1 finale all the more heartbreaking. In surprisingly fashion, however, the heartbreak this time around didn't come from the death of a beloved character — RIP Tess, Bill, Frank, Henry, Sam, Riley and all our other faves -- but from a lie.Having realized that the Fireflies plan for Ellie — which involved operating on her brain to analyze her cordyceps for a possible cure — would kill her, Joel went on a rampage, killing guards, doctors and finally Marlene (Merle Dandrige) as he broke a still-unconscious Ellie out of the hospital. When she came to, however, Joel omitted all of his own violence from the story, telling Ellie that the hospital was attacked by raiders but that the Firefly doctors had determined she wasn't the cure and she was free to leave.«I don't think Ellie does believe him, at her core,» Ramsey told ET's Ash Crossan during an interview for an ET and Comicbook crossover podcast. «I don't think she does, but she has to force herself to believe him enough, because the thought of it not being true is too painful.»At the episode's end, a still-skeptical Ellie even asks Joel to swear that what he told her was true — and he does.«I think that she forces herself to to believe him and buys into her own delusion because she has to for her own sanity,» the actress added. «But I think deep down she's always had a feeling.»If the truth comes to light in season 2, it's likely to cause a massive rift between the two, especially, Ramsey said, because Ellie would have «definitely» been willing to sacrifice herself for the cure.«That's her purpose, that's the reason she's alive,» she explained.
