It's a home the Queen could live in if she chooses, but Fort Belvedere, located in Windsor, never seemed to make the cut. Queen Elizabeth, 95, has a home on her Windsor Estate in Berkshire that she's never lived in, despite its historical links. Fort Belvedere has often been referred to as 'The Fort' and it was hugely expanded by King George IV, who added a flag pole, annex and dining room.
It exists in a Gothic Revival style, and is thought to have been built between 1750 and 1755 for Prince William Augustus. Get exclusive celebrity stories and fabulous photoshoots straight to your inbox with OK!'s daily newsletter. You can sign up at the top of the page.
In the 19860s, the home flung its doors open to the public as Queen Victoria, who liked to use it as her tea house, allowed access to the space. After this, it was Prince Edward, Prince of Wales who moved into the home and spent £21,000 (£1.49million today) renovating the property. Altogether he added new cupboards, heating, showers and a steam room and he also refurbished the gardens and had a swimming pool and stables built.
Home to scandal too, it's where his romance with Mrs Wallis Simpson took place, and she moved in permanently in 1936. However Edward moved out of the home and it was then left unoccupied until 1955, which is when the Queen's cousin Gerald Lascelles moved in. But, in 1976, it was sold again and leased to the person who lives there today, Canadian billionaire Galen Weston.
