OHS generated a staggering £37 million in sales last year and is expected to surpass the £50 million mark this year, largely thanks to a high ratio of returning clients.
Moshe Cohen said: “At first the general feeling from people was that our prices were too good to be true. But then they buy it, get it, see it is true.
“They’re coming back in their thousands, and it’s a big snowball effect. People love the product and love the price so it really sells itself.”
The online retailer initially started as a textiles business in 1952 by Moshe’s grandfather specialising in manufacturing and importing items such as bedding.
Moshe’s father, Max, 62, then took over the business in the 1980s supplying huge retailers such as Wilko, Primark and Home Bargains with business partner, Martin Sluckis until switching to e-commerce 10 years ago.
Moshe said: “He realised that the world was going online and the retailers were getting more and more difficult to deal with, and that is when Online Home Shop was born.
“We started to put the products online and were selling properly on eBay and Amazon - and sales went woosh.”
Helped by a strong e-commerce background, sales of their home textiles skyrocketed after Moshe joined forces with his father
