First Dates star Fred Sirieix was reportedly "blindsided" by co-star Gino D'Acampo's decision to quit their popular TV series, Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip. The Italian chef and presenter announced his departure from the series on Sunday (19th March) in what came as a shock to fans.

She’s teamed up with Johnnie Walker on First Strides, an initiative that has provided more than $1 million to women’s organizations such as IFundWomen and She Should Run since its launch a year ago. The Johnnie Walker program is part of Friday’s Women in Film pre-Oscars event in Hollywood, providing free 30-day trials to MUBI to encourage people to watch more women-made films. “I joined Johnnie Walker to not only celebrate but to create support for women filmmakers and women-made films,” Zhao said.

First Dates star Fred Sirieix has branded his co-star Merlin Griffith’s an ‘inspiration’ amid his cancer battle. In September 2021, Merlin shared that he had been diagnosed with bowel cancer with a stage three tumour, and has since been sharing updates of his treatment. Earlier this year, the 47-year-old revealed he had his stoma removed, saying that it felt ‘very odd knowing all my insides are actually inside me again after 9 months of a stoma’.

Tara Karajica In her debut film, exec produced by Oscar winner Laura Poitras (“Citizenfour”), Syrian activist-journalist Lina chronicles the real-time transition from peaceful revolution, ushered in by the Arab Spring more than a decade ago, to civil war in Syria. The film plays in the Newcomers Competition at the Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival. At first, Lina thought she would document the women’s involvement in the Syrian uprising. “I was thinking that despite how much women are involved in every aspect of what is happening, once everything is over, somehow, we’re going to slip through the cracks and disappear from the story. So, I decided it was best to start documenting what we do as we do it, to make sure that memories were not erased. But as things progressed, and took unexpected turns, I had more and more reasons to keep making the film. And, some of the reasons changed because, as I was making it, I felt that documenting the role of women isn’t exactly an objective for the film. It’s just part of the texture of the film. I don’t need to aim for it anymore. It’s there.”

For Iranian director and co-writer Cyrus Neshvad, bringing the story of The Red Suitcase to life was a matter of urgency. The film follows the harrowing journey of a 16-year-old Iranian girl as she attempts to flee an airport undetected by the man that she’s been sent off to marry. One of the short’s most instrumental scenes involves the girl removing her hijab for her safety, but also at the detriment of defying her culture. Considering the timely release of his short film coinciding with the recent female-led anti-hijab protests in Iran, Neshvad explains, “I don’t want the movie to be political. I just wanted to give this message that we should be free to do what we want… when I did this movie, I said, ‘I want a woman who has the choice to take this off, even if it’s for her freedom, for her free will.'”

A think-tank has warned many people on benefits will be financially worse off until 2025 due to a failure in payments keeping up with inflation. The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) said the annual uprating of benefits in April will “merely take them back to around the real level they were at a year earlier”.
