Paul Sinha, known for his role on ITV's The Chase, has opened up about a deeply embarrassing moment. In his 2024 book, One Sinha Lifetime: Comedy, disaster and one man's quest for happiness, the 54-year-old quizzer reveals the moment happened during his appearance on the pilot episode of A League of Their Own on Sky in 2009.
Paul, who is also a professional quizzer, shared that his team captain was former cricketer Stuart Broad, who he had jokingly included in an imaginary "future husband" wishlist. During the show, host James Corden turned to him and said: "So, Paul - I understand you really fancy Stuart." According to the Express, Paul didn't find this line of questioning offensive at the time, reports the Mirror.
He wrote in his book: "If you set yourself up as a gay comic who likes to playfully flirt with straight men, then you need to be able to own your persona on comedy panel shows." However, Paul revealed that comedian John Bishop, another guest on the show, delivered the "killer blow" when he asked: "Stuart, how does it feel to be sat next to a man who's w***ed over your photos? ". Paul confessed he hadn't expected to feature in the subsequent TV series, but he still vividly remembers feeling "largely ignored" at the afterparty and "crying for most of the taxi journey" on his way home.
He pondered whether to encourage or halt this kind of questioning but chose to keep silent, referring to it as "unfunny". The 'Sinnerman' from The Chase recalled the awkward situation in the sporting-themed panel show when James Corden asked his own dad from the audience to rate the six guests.
