Over the coming weeks woodland areas will be transformed with bluebells as these gorgeous purple flowers start to bloom. They usually follow suit once golden daffodils have appeared and signify that spring is well and truly underway.
With drooping heads and delicate sweet scent, bluebells are instantly recognisable. Although not as common as daffodils, these flowers can be found all over, from stretches of ancient woodland to the gardens of stately homes.
Bluebells normally flower from mid-April to around mid-May, so there isn’t long to catch these magical blooms. Make the most of these fleeting flowers by going out on a spring walk and spotting them along the way.

The woodland surrounding Rufford Old Hall near Ormskirk in Lancashire is a full of bluebells at this time of year. The grounds feature beautiful Victorian and Edwardian gardens, with manicured lawns, an orchard and topiary.
But it's the woodland which comes alive in the spring as bluebells erupt from the earth. You can see them as you pass through the woods on the canal walk, taking you alongside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
Dunham Massey is an excellent place for a spring walk with a 300-acre deer park to explore and beautiful gardens. There are paths you can follow through the historic parkland - many of which are accessible making it great for families.
