Matt Reeves‘ The Batman 2 is no longer opening on Oct. 3, 2025 –a new launchpad for Comic Book movies– rather Oct. 2, 2026. We hear the new date is due to the aftermath of the dual strikes.
The spacing will also give some distance from James Gunn’s Superman movie which is hitting cinemas on July 11, 2025. That film will kick off Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Studios, the first phase entitled “Gods and Monsters.”
Reeves’ Batman is not part of the Gunn universe, but it’s all kosher to co-exist. Gunn has another Batman movie in the works with Andy Muschietti directing, Batman: Brave and the Bold. Robert Pattinson plays Batman in Reeves’ universe. The role will be re-casted for the Muschietti’s version.
The Batman, which opened two years ago, grossed over $772M at the global box office. The reboot was also a big watch on Warner Bros Discovery streaming service Max.
Backfilling Batman 2‘s old date is Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! which stars Christian Bale, Jesse Buckley, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening and Penelope Cruz. Producers are Gyllenhaal, Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Talia Kleinhendler, and Osnat Handelsman-Keren.
Paul Thomas Anderson‘s next movie also got a release date of Aug. 8, 2025. This is the one that stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Alana Haim and Chase Infiniti. The movie will have access to Imax screens. Anderson wrote, and produces with Sara Murphy and Adam Somner.
Also, the Barry Levinson directed Robert De Niro twin mobster movie Alto Knights has been pushed from Nov. 15, 2024 to March 21, 2025. Nick Pileggi wrote with Debra Messing, Cosmo Jarvis, Katherine Narducci and Micahel Rispoli starring. Producers are Irwin Winkler, Levinson, Jason Sosnoff, Charles

didn’t steal the plot for its 2022 blockbuster “The Batman” from a writer who created a story about the Caped Crusader three decades earlier, a federal judge in Manhattan ruled on Wednesday.US District Judge Paul Engelmayer also said the writer Christopher Wozniak infringed copyrights belonging to DC Comics, which employed him as a freelance artist in 1990 when he wrote “The Ultimate Riddle,” later retitled “The Blind Man’s Hat.”“We respectfully disagree with the court’s decision and are considering our next steps,” Wozniak’s lawyer, Terry Parker, said in an email.Wozniak claimed he was “stunned” to learn that “The Batman” was a near copy of “The Ultimate Riddle,” with the Riddler terrorizing a Gotham City beset by crime and controlled by a corrupt banking cartel. But in a 45-page decision, Engelmayer said Wozniak intentionally and without consent lifted material from DC Comics’ works to create his story, which “liberally exploits –indeed, is rife with” Batman characters and plot elements.“The story’s use of the Batman character and the surrounding protected elements is an act of clear and blatant copyright infringement,” the judge wrote.Engelmayer also said key similarities between the works — serial killers who are loners bent on destroying society, villains who taunt pursuers with “clues and riddles,” and moments of “clarity or epiphany” that propel villains to crime — were too commonplace to support Wozniak’s copyright claim. For the latter, the judge in a footnote cited movies including “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith,” where Anakin Skywalker succumbs to the dark side of the Force and becomes Darth Vader.Engelmayer also rejected Wozniak’s “wholly speculative” claim for how Warner Bros might have gotten

Though many critics thought another Batman reboot would be overkill, filmmaker Matt Reeves largely silenced early detractors with his moody and atmospheric “The Batman” (2022), which starred Robert Pattinson. As we eagerly await “The Batman—Part II,” Reeves willflesh out his vision for Gotham City with “The Batman” spinoff series “The Penguin.” Focusing on the crime villain Oswald Copplepot, aka The Penguin (played by Colin Farrell), the series is set in the aftermath of a power vacuum in the crime-ridden megalopolis of Gotham created by the death of crime boss Carmine Falcone (played by John Turturro in Reeves’ first film).
The Batman franchise won’t be released anytime soon after a new release date is announced. The sequel to Matt Reeves’ movie starring Robert Pattinson as the winged DC superhero was announced at CinemaCon in April 2022, with Mattson Tomlin to co-write with Reeves. Jackson's work in "Django Unchained" and Gary Oldman's performance in "Leon: The Professional." This year is no different, with stars being looked over in both the acting and directing categories.
