Bradley Cooper, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie among biggest 2024 Oscars snubs

With every round of Academy Award nominations, there are bound to be a few disappointments. In years past, the Oscars were criticized for snubbing "Straight Outta Compton" in all categories and for the failure to recognize Samuel L. Jackson's work in "Django Unchained" and Gary Oldman's performance in "Leon: The Professional." This year is no different, with stars being looked over in both the acting and directing categories.

Is it written in the stars? Find out which Oscar 2024-nominated movie matches your zodiac sign

Jimmy Kimmel is set to host and Scorpio king Ryan Gosling will take to the stage to perform his existential bro-anthem “I’m Just Ken.” Gosling is nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in the blond blockbuster “Barbie.” Despite critical acclaim, the film’s director Greta Gerwig, and star, Margot Robbie were notably excluded from the Best Director and Best Actress categories — thereby proving the point of the movie they made. In 2024, we’ll be celebrating the tenth anniversary of Aquarius John Travolta’s abject butchering of Idina Menzel’s name — and, we’re told, the public debut of Bradley Cooper and Gigi Hadid’s relationship. If the zodiac signs themselves were winners in academy categories, we’d place our bets that Aries wins Best Live Action Short Film, as they go hard and but not for long.

Osage Nation Passes Bills in Support of Lily Gladstone and Scott George for Roles in ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’

Jaden Thompson Indigenous stories aren’t always told with the care, nuance and authenticity they deserve in Hollywood, and, more often than not, their stories aren’t told at all. While “Killers of the Flower Moon” has certainly prompted discourse within indigenous communities about who should tell what stories, the Osage Nation Congress has unanimously endorsed the creative contributions that Lily Gladstone and Scott George made to the film. The tribal governing body recently passed bills expressing support for their roles in Martin Scorsese’s historical epic.

Hayden Christensen Thought He’d Lose ‘Star Wars’ Role Once He Heard Leonardo DiCaprio Met With Lucasfilm: Playing Anakin ‘Just Wasn’t a Possibility’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director No one was shocked more than Hayden Christensen when he landed the role of Anakin Skywalker in George Lucas’ “Star Wars: Attack of the Clones” and “Star Wars: The Revenge of the Sith.” Christensen was far from the biggest name that Lucasfilm was trying to lure into its galaxy far, far away. When he had heard that Leonardo DiCaprio was being courted, Christensen thought “Star Wars” was a lost cause for him. “I had heard that they’d met with Leonardo and a bunch of other actors,” Christensen recently told Empire magazine.

Leonardo DiCaprio Told Timothée Chalamet ‘No Superhero Movies,’ but Chalamet Says ‘I’d Have to Consider’ One ‘If the Script’ and Director Were ‘Great’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Timothée Chalamet first revealed in September 2022 that his “Don’t Look Up” co-star Leonardo DiCaprio once gave him brief but essential career advice: “No hard drugs and no superhero movies.” DiCaprio has never gone down the comic book movie route, and it’s a path Chalamet has also avoided so far despite the majority of his contemporaries signing up for Marvel and DC films in recent years. Is Chalamet still committed to DiCaprio’s advice? In a recent interview with The New York Times while on the press tour for “Dune: Part Two,” Chalamet said the door on starring in comic book movies is not completely shut the way it might be for DiCaprio.

How Robin Williams cheered up Steven Spielberg when he was directing ‘Schindler’s List’

Robin Williams called him every week to cheer him up while he was filming his 1993 Holocaust movie, “Schindler’s List.”Spielberg’s friendship with Williams stretched back to “Hook,” the 1991 flick that Spielberg directed and featured Williams as an adult Peter Pan.Spielberg opened up about “Schindler’s List,” and several other topics, in a wide-ranging interview in the Hollywood Reporter to talk about the 30th anniversary of the movie, which was filmed in Krakow, Poland, in 1993.The movie, which won seven Oscars at the 66th Academy Awards in 1994 — including Best Picture and Best Director (for Spielberg) — told the story of German industrialist Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson), who saved thousands of Jews from the Nazis during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories.“Robin knew how hard it was for me on the movie, and once a week, every Friday, he’d call me on the phone and do comedy for me,” Spielberg said.“Whether it was after 10 minutes or 20 minutes, when he heard me give the biggest laugh, he’d hang up on me.”Neeson also remembered Williams’ Friday phone calls to Spielberg.“Steven would tell us afterward the sorts of things Robin would say,” Neeson recalled. “Once he started a riff of ‘I’m not a Nazi, I’m a nutsy,’ all this sort of s – – t.”Williams, the comedically brilliant “Mork & Mindy” star and Oscar-winning actor (“Good Will Hunting”), died by suicide in 2014 at the age of 63.Spielberg said that shooting “Schindler’s List” took its toll on him, emotionally.“The hard days were beyond my imagination and the easy days were never easy,” he told THR.
