‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ Co-Producer James Flynn Dies At Age 57

Carole Horst Kerry Condon earned her first Oscar nomination for Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin,” in which she plays Siobhán, the complex sister of Colin Farrell’s simple Pádraic. Condon has worked with McDonagh for two decades; her first major role was in his play “The Lieutenant of Inishmore,” and in 2009, she starred in his drama “The Cripple of Inishmaan.” She also appeared in his film “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” which won Academy Awards for Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell. The actor, who hails from Thurles, Tipperary, Ireland, also shared that she shaved her head twice for McDonagh — once for “The Lieutenant of Inishmore” in London and four years later for the play’s New York premiere.

Pulp bassist Steve Mackey has died aged 56.The star joined the well-loved band in 1989, with them going on to release hit tracks such as Common People, Babies and Disco 2000.The group are reuniting later this year, but it was announced in October that Steve wasn't taking part. As well as working with Pulp, Steve worked alongside a series of other huge names including M.I.A, Florence and The Machine and Arcade Fire.The band’s official Twitter page confirmed the news of his death. Fresh from his Oscar nomination for The Banshees of Inisherin, Irish actor Barry Keoghan is turning his attention back towards a dream assignment: a new feature retelling of the story of Billy the Kid. Keoghan’s American Animals director Bart Layton is aboard to direct the feature, produced by Element Pictures with Film4.

He was 79. Luddy co-founded Telluride in 1974 along with Bill Pence, Stella Pence and James Card. Luddy served as co-director, then as artistic director and adviser through 2022. Beginning in a small opera house, the festival evolved into one of the largest and most respected globally over the past five decades. “The world has lost a rare ingredient that we’ll all be searching for, for some time,” said Telluride Film Festival executive director Julie Huntsinger in a statement. “I would sometimes find myself feeling sad for those who didn’t get to know Tom Luddy properly. He had a sphinx-like quality that took a little time to get around, for some. But once you knew him, you were welcomed into a kingdom of art, history, intelligence, humor, and joie de vivre that you knew you couldn’t be without. He made life richer. Magical. He called Telluride a labor of love for a very long time. We’re so much better off because of him and that labor. We at the Festival owe it to him to carry on his legacy; his commitment to and love for cinema, above all.”  

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief James Flynn, an experienced Irish producer and executive, who recently co-produced Oscar favorite “The Banshees of Inisherin,” has died age 57. He died on Feb 11 of an undisclosed illness, Irish media reported. Early in his career, Flynn was appointed as head of development at John Boorman’s Merlin Films International. Later he co-founded Metropolitan Film Productions Limited with wife Juanita Wilson in 1997, before establishing Octagon Films in 2002, developing and producing films for the international market.

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, the heirs to the UK throne, will attend the upcoming BAFTA for the first time in three years, Kensington Palace has announced. William, who has been the president of BAFTA since 2010, and Kate will watch the ceremony being held at the Royal Festival Hall on 19 February before meeting the winners and Rising Star Award nominees.The royal couple last attended the event in person in 2020 with the prince last year recording a video message in his place, in which he congratulated those nominated and praised the work of BAFTAs programmes.
