Pulp bassist Steve Mackey has died aged 56.The star joined the well-loved band in 1989, with them going on to release hit tracks such as Common People, Babies and Disco 2000.The group are reuniting later this year, but it was announced in October that Steve wasn't taking part. As well as working with Pulp, Steve worked alongside a series of other huge names including M.I.A, Florence and The Machine and Arcade Fire.The band’s official Twitter page confirmed the news of his death. Steve died on Thursday, 2 March.They wrote: “Our beloved friend & bass player Steve Mackey passed away this morning.
Our thoughts are with his family & loved ones. Safe travels, Steve. “We hope to catch up with you one day.
All our love xx”. Steve’s wife, fashion journalist Katie Grand, also confirmed the news of his untimely passing in a statement shared to his Instagram. “After three months in hospital, fighting with all his strength and determination, we are shocked and devastated to have said goodbye my brilliant, beautiful husband, Steve Mackey,” her heartbreaking post began.
"Steve died today, a loss which has left myself, his son Marley, parents Kath and Paul, sister Michelle and many friends all heartbroken. "Steve was the most talented man I knew, an exceptional musician, producer, photographer and filmmaker. As in life, he was adored by everyone whose paths he crossed in the multiple creative disciplines he conquered.
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all the NHS staff who worked tirelessly for Steve. He will be missed beyond words." People have since taken to social media to share their condolences, with hitmaker M.I.A leading the comments. She wrote: “After making demos in my room, I was lucky enough to meet Steve Mackey.
