The band had to cancel their performance in Brisbane
The 1975 have cancelled a festival appearance in Brisbane, posting a statement explaining that frontman Matty Healy has been hospitalised.
The band were due to headline the city’s Laneway Festival today (February 1), but were forced to withdraw due to Healy suffering a “bout of serious sickness” following a medical examination that advised the frontman he was “too weak to play”.
“We hope to be back on track for tomorrow’s show in Sydney.

"It wasn’t the time for me to pitch my post-rock Joni Mitchell project."

"I met them years later and told them the whole story and they weren't remotely interested"
The 1975 head out to "The Birthday Party" of every sad meme lover's dreams in their latest music video released today (Feb. 19) with the new single via Dirty Hit/ Interscope Records.
The 1975 are back with another new song from their upcoming album Notes on a Conditional Form, which is out April 24. This one’s called “The Birthday Party.” The music video, made with director Ben Ditto and co-director/lead artist Jon Emmony, involves a Sims-esque avatar of Matty Healy entering a surreal “digital detox center” called Mindshower, where he encounters various characters from the internet along with his bandmates.
They're not going anywhere just yet
"We genuinely didn't know we were getting this. I don't really know what to say"
Two years on from “step up,” things in the music world seemingly have stepped back in time, from the Recording Academy’s epic diversity failures to the return to male-dominated headliners at many major festivals, including a testosterone-heavy Coachella — as called out by Variety and many others — and Britain’s Reading and Leeds Festivals, the lineups of which feature just 20 female-fronted acts out of 91.
The 1975’s Matty Healy has discussed his commitment to gender equality in festival lineups in a new interview with Ben Beaumont-Thomas and Laura Snapes at The Guardian. After criticism was leveled at the lineups of UK-based festivals including Leeds and Reading, Snapes called for the band to “add a condition to your rider that says you’ll only play festivals that commit to X% (ideally 50%!) acts that include women and non-binary performers.” Healy responded:
Following backlash over the male-heavy lineup for the 2020 Reading and Leeds festival, The 1975 frontman Matty Healy says the band will only play gender-balanced music festivals from now on. Of the 91 artists on the Reading and Leeds bill, headlined by Rage Against the Machine, Stormzy and Liam Gallagher, only 20 are female or feature women.
"I believe this is how male artist can be true allies"
The 1975 unveiled a giddy music video for their new single "Me & You Together Song" on Thursday (Feb. 6), just in time for Valentine's Day.
After appearing on stage in a hospital gown earlier this week following some medical issues, The 1975 frontman Matty Healy surprised fans again this week during the band's Australian tour by busting out an acoustic version of a new song. The track, which Healy previously revealed is titled "Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America," is slated to appear on the group's upcoming Notes on a Conditional Form album.
This looked special
The 1975 had to cancel their show in Brisbane, Australia, on Saturday night (Feb. 1) due to front man Matty Healy suffering from "a bout of serious sickness." The next night, Healy felt better and took the stage in Sydney, but really drove his point home by performing in a hospital gown.
