Takeaways are being forced to make a major change as a new rule comes into place in a matter of days.
Plastic cutlery and polystyrene cups will be banned from October 1, in an attempt to better protect the environment. Fast food joints will no longer be able to serve up their grub on single-plastic materials, including bowls.
Takeaway bosses could be fined if they continue to supply single-use plastics, reports BirminghamLive. The government advised businesses to prepare for the new law by using up existing stock before October 1, finding re-usable alternatives to single-use items and using different materials for single-use items.

However, the government clarified that single-use plastic plates, bowls and trays can still be used if you're supplying them to another business, or if the items are packaging - so, pre-filled or filled at the point of sale. Examples include a pre-filled salad bowl or ready meal packaged in a tray, a plate filled at the counter of a takeaway and a tray used to deliver food.
Local authorities will carry out inspections to make sure the rules are being followed. If you break the law, inspectors can order your business to cover the cost of the investigation. Complaints about a business breaking the law can be made to Trading Standards.
