Sun, music, and good times: Manchester's Caribbean Carnival closes in style

Twelve people have been arrested after police raided houses across Manchester in the early hours.

A busy main road near Manchester city centre was closed on Monday evening after a van flipped onto its roof in a crash. Two vehicles were involved in the collision on Regent Road (A57), close to the roundabout, on Monday (August 29).

Officers now have the power to carry out ‘targeted stop and searches’ in Moss Side, according to Greater Manchester Police. This comes in the wake of police stepping up patrols in the area after a fatal shooting earlier this month.

The police cannot tackle knife crime alone, Greater Manchester's deputy chief constable has said, after three people died within a week following stabbings. Speaking on BBC Radio Manchester on Tuesday (August 23), the top cop called on communities, volunteers and the public sector to 'pull together'.

Two more men have been charged over the fatal stabbing of Javell Morgan in Moss Side earlier this month. Darius Blackburn, 20, and Deontay Crosfield, 22, both from Huddersfield, were arrested in West Yorkshire over the weekend before appearing at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court today.
