A renter has discovered it’s cheaper to live in a 5-star all-inclusive resort than his city centre flat. Josh Kerr, who pays £950 a month in rent and bills for his Manchester apartment, shared the revelation in a viral TikTok video which has since racked up almost 600,000 views.
The TikToker was left stunned after discovering it would cost him just £938 to book an all-inclusive resort in Turkey for 28 nights – flights included.
In the video, he said: “I’ve just found out it’s cheaper to live at a 5-star all-inclusive resort than it is to live in Manchester. So I’ve gone on On The Beach and I’ve searched from Manchester, April 1 because why not, 28 nights, one adult.
“Search all-inclusive, set it from ‘low price’ first, and look at that – are you kidding? Five-star hotel as well. Hold luggage included, so they’re not going to include a stupid price on getting the hold luggage included. 20kg and fast-track security, what more could you want?”
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Josh’s search brought him to Xoria Deluxe Resort in Antalya, which would cost £938 for a direct flight from Manchester and a 28-night stay. As Josh directed his camera out the window, he continued: “And I’m here living in rainy Manchester. Look at this geezer, he’s got his umbrella out. I won’t need that in Turkey when I’m at a 5-star resort.”
Manchester is the most expensive borough in Greater Manchester to rent, with the average cost likely driven up by sky-high rental prices across the city centre. Anyone wanting to rent in the area can expect to pay an average of £1,163 per month, according to the latest figures from Zoopla.
Council tax band A would also set residents back £1,312.99 for the 23/24 year while band G would be £3,282.50. Josh
