Comedian and former Strictly contestant Susan Calman has revealed her impressive weight loss in a post on Instagram, and has explained to fans the inspiration behind her transformation. Captioning the picture, she wrote: “Around Christmas time I had a nightmare (I mean a dream!) in which one of my dearest friends was in trouble and I couldn’t help her because I wasn’t strong enough. So I decided I wanted to be strong.
I lift weights, do push ups and run. Because if someone I love is in trouble, I want to be able to physically lift them out of danger.” In the post, Susan revealed she had lost over 30 pounds over five months, and explained how she did it. “To be clear, no one has been mean to me on social media, it’s just an explanation,” she began.
“I have lost weight. Over thirty pounds. I’ve done it slowly over five months with the help of a personal trainer (thanks @redefinept) and not so much eating more healthily (I’ve always done that) but sometimes making better choices.
I’m definitely not on a diet but I am exercising and moving more.” She described her fitness regime as “tough.” “When I’m filming I’ve been getting up at 5am to do an hour of training before we start filming.
That’s not easy, but if I’m one thing, it’s determined.” She added: “It’s about how I feel not about how I look. And I feel better. And I can just about rescue people now.
I’m fifty this year, and want to be fitter than ever. I’m getting there xx.” The Glasgow comic trained as a lawyer and worked in corporate law for seven years before beginning her career in stand up comedy. She first rose to fame when she reached the semi finals of the BBC New Comedy Awards in 2005.
