Stephen King landed in hot water this week after tweeting his reaction to Oscar backlash after the 2020 nominations showed a lack of women in key creative categories — including Best Director. Cynthia Erivo, who stars in HBO's adaptation of King's The Outsider, responded to the writer's remarks at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Wednesday while promoting the show.

Cynthia Erivo is weighing in on Stephen King's recent controversial comments about diversity. 

Just a day after Stephen King came under fire for Tweeting that he “would never consider diversity in matters of art. Only quality. It seems to me that to do otherwise would be wrong” in response to this year’s Oscar nominees not being inclusive for women or people of color, HBO presented a panel for the latest adaptation of one of his works, “The Outsider.”

Filmmaker Sir Steve McQueen has signed a deal with Amazon Studios which will see him produce a sci-fi series for the streamer.

Monday morning’s Oscar nominations rebooted the #OscarsSoWhite conversation, reigniting discussion about representation after women were shut out of the directing category and only one person of color — Cynthia Erivo — was nominated in the acting categories.

Cynthia Erivo was 30,000 feet above the Pacific when she found out that she was nominated for two Academy Awards on Monday (Jan. 13), but she may as well have been on the moon."I’m literally in my seat going, 'I can’t say anything! I can’t scream, I can’t jump up and down, I can’t do anything, but I know this is happening!'" she tells Billboard hours after receiving the news of her nominations.
