Saints boss Stephen Robinson insists his side went to Ibrox chasing all three points that would have made their top-six dreams come true.
And he was disappointed his Buddies couldn’t quite get over the line after holding Rangers at 2-2 going into the final 15 minutes of the match.
While he took plenty of positives from the overall display, particularly Mark O’Hara’s brace of wonderful strikes, the St Mirren boss fully believed his team could have sealed the deal in Govan before a late defensive collapse cost them dearly.
He said: “We were hoping to get it done at Ibrox and we were in a position to do that.
“But it didn’t happen and we have to dust ourselves down now.
“There will be fans who will say we had a go here and we were unlucky, but we don’t work like that.
“We came here to try and win and had numerous chances — a few one-versus-two situations where we just didn’t make the right pass.”
“Ultimately we couldn’t see it through.”
Rangers manager Michael Beale admits Mark O'Hara's first goal at Ibrox on Saturday was a "fantastic strike".
While the Buddies in the away end were celebrating wildly as their midfielder's sensational volley found the top corner to level just before half-time, Beale was fizzing at his players for not shutting the move down much earlier.
And the Rangers boss admits he had to change more than he'd hoped to eventually get the better of the Saints late on at Ibrox.
He said: "I was really annoyed with St Mirren's first goal.
"Take nothing away from the boy O'Hara, it was a fantastic strike. But if you rewind it back, we had a four-versus-three in the attacking third.
"We were very wasteful in that moment - and our reaction from that was dreadful. From everybody - from Todd Cantwell after shooting, from

Defender Richard Taylor will remain a Buddie after St Mirren decided to keep hold of the centre back for another two years.
Late-night shows will be shut down after the Writers Guild of America (WGA) announced they will strike.
Charlie Nicholas has told Michael Beale he must tell the Ibrox board straight what he needs to topple Celtic, but the former Hoops striker claims they won’t have to “spend fortunes” to mount a challenge against their treble-chasing rivals next season.
The Writers Guild sent a message to its members Monday evening saying that picketing will begin Tuesday afternoon if a deal on a new contract can’t be reached tonight.
Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss‘ estate has been settled four months after he died unexpectedly without a will.
Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon insists Michael Beale's Rangers career could suffer a major bodyblow if they crash out of the Scottish Cup.

There's nothing quite like a comeback story in football: a player back from the dead, better than ever after being written off. Aaron Wan-Bissaka was put up for sale by Manchester United last year, but now he's just reached the FA Cup final after a masterclass in how how to defend against Kauro Mitoma.

Easter is a special time of year for the Royal Family, and one of the rare times where you will see them out together in full force. For the first time, King Charles will be leading the ceremony, following the death of the long-reigning Queen Elizabeth II last year, with most members of the Firm heading to the service held at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
