Stephen Robinson revealed he will resist the temptation to rush St Mirren striker Jonah Ayunga back into action.
The powerful forward continued his recovery from a ruptured ACL this week, scoring in a bounce game on Monday.
Saints fans can’t wait to see the 26-year-old lead the line again after impressing in the first half of last season, before picking up his painful injury against Motherwell in January.
But manager Robinson says he won’t rush into calling on the striker until he is 100 percent ready to play.
Robinson explained: “Jonah is still a bit away from returning. Gerry Docherty [St Mirren’s head of physio] is in charge of that and we need a certain amount of minutes before we even consider putting him into the team.
“We can’t rush that, it’s been too long an injury. It will probably not be before the next international break for him [to play competitively again].
“We have the best physio in the UK and I’ve worked with a lot of people. Gerry is exceptional and he’ll tell me when he’s ready to play.
“What I think is ready is not what the medical side reckon is ready.
“Keeping Jonah long-term fit is 100 percent our priority.”
