There are still a lot of questions surrounding the future of “Star Wars” on the big screen. Even though Lucasfilm announced a trio of new films earlier this year, it’s difficult to imagine a world where they all get made, especially given how the studio has developed and canceled films before production quite a lot.

Star Wars: Ahsoka May Make Changes To Return Of The Jedi

Star Wars Ahsoka might be Dave Filoni’s best chance to make this change to Return Of The Jedi. The rumors of Captain Rex making his live-action debut in this upcoming series would be the key to making this small but important change. Filoni has a deep connection to these characters through his time working on The Clone Wars with George Lucas.

Star Wars: Is John Boyega Open To Returning?

In a recent interview, John Boyega, most recently known for his role as Finn in the Star Wars movies, opened up about a possible return. His recent words about the franchise come years after he spoke out about how Disney treats black characters in their projects. Boyega accused Disney of using diverse casting to bring in viewers and then pushing those characters to the side after they have made their quick buck. “That was a few years ago, so they were the subject of that particular project,” Boyega recently told TechRadar, in an interview that was conducted before the actors strike.

‘Star Wars Outlaws’ is inspired by movie-making tricks of the 1970s

Star Wars Outlaws is largely influenced by the practicalities of movie-making in the 1970s, as well as the series’ iconic “visual language of reduction”.Revealed in the Xbox Games Showcase last month, Star Wars Outlaws is “set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi”. Not only are the narrative and characters rooted in the original movie trilogy, but the creative director Julian Gerighty has said that everything that the player sees in the game will feel like it’s been lifted from one of the sets.In an interview with EDGE Magazine, Gerighty shared that Ubisoft Massive took the time to develop technology that “emulates some of the lenses of the ’70s” to create a grainy and gritty Star Wars game.“So you have the vignetting, film grain, lens breathing, the curvature of a thicker lens, the slight lens flares – all of these things that are very subtle, but come together to give you a more cinematic experience,” explained Gerighty.Expectedly, these effects are likely to be optional so that players are able to switch settings.

Disney to “pull back” on Star Wars and Marvel content, says CEO Bob Iger

Disney CEO Bob Iger has said the company will be pulling back on creating new Star Wars and Marvel content. The announcement comes on the back of the company’s attempts to cut costs, having seen a number of their recent films, from Marvel to animation, underwhelm at the box office.“You pull back not just to focus, but also as part of our cost containment initiative. Spending less on what we make, and making less,” Iger told CNBC on Thursday (July 13).Iger said that many of the decisions were made to prop up the company’s flagship streaming service, Disney+, and attract more customers. The Disney CEO went on to note that an influx of new Marvel content, both on the big and small screens, had “diluted focus and attention”.“It had not been in the television business at any significant level, and not only did they increase their movie output, but they ended up making a number of TV series,” said Iger.

At the Emmys, as Everywhere Else, IP Is King as ‘The Last of Us’ and ‘Star Wars’ Land Key Nods

Alison Herman TV Critic For a few years in the 2010s, TV was seen as a refuge from the intellectual property boom engulfing blockbuster filmmaking. Original, mid-budget stories aimed at adults were no longer welcome at the multiplex, but they could often find a home in a prestige-hungry medium newly attractive to A-list talent. Beginning with the launch of the streaming service Disney+ in 2019, however, “cinematic” universes like Star Wars and Marvel established a presence on the small screen, while the conclusion of “Game of Thrones” that same year kicked off the arms race for the next crossover genre hit. The Primetime Emmy Awards have acknowledged this trend in the past. “WandaVision,” “The Mandalorian,” and “The Boys” all earned series nominations in prior years, affording artistic legitimacy to these franchises in addition to their popular success. (The first two series were the small screen debuts of Marvel and Star Wars, respectively; “The Boys” is a superhero satire that is itself adapted from a comic book, with a budget and fandom to match that of its targets.) But for its 75th annual honors, the Television Academy fully embraced the IP extravaganza that’s enveloped the rest of culture. TV is no longer a refuge from the prevailing winds, but a channel for them.
