South Korean dark comedy Parasite takes home another major award

The movie studio behind — the South Korean film that made history earlier this month as the first-ever international movie to win the Best Picture Oscar — has responded to President Donald Trump's digs during a campaign rally in Colorado.

"I thought it was best foreign film," the president said of the film that won the Academy's top honor.

While the world appreciated the Academy for recognising talent beyond boundaries and language barriers when they presented Parasite with Best Picture award at Oscars 2020, US President Donald Trump did not think it was a good idea. While delivering a speech at a rally on January 20, Trump mocked Oscars for the South Korean film’s historic win, Variety reported.

Fear of the spread of coronavirus has taken a heavy toll on the South Korean entertainment industry, where many scheduled concerts and events have been canceled. The K-pop sector has been especially hurt.

Actress Go Soo Jung, who appeared in hit South Korean TV show Goblin, has died aged 24.

Parasite made history this week. The South Korean movie directed by Bong Joon-ho won three prestigious awards at the 92nd Academy Awards. From bagging the Oscars for Best Direction to beating 1917, Marriage Story, Jojo Rabbit and several other movies to bag the Best International Feature, Parasite became the first international movie in the almost 100-year long history of the award show to have won the Best Picture award. The movie has received praise from critics all over the world. 

Fear of the coronavirus increased its impact on the South Korean cinema industry. Films were cancelled and box office revenues dropped for a second weekend.
