Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has said the Magpies have not received any contact as of yet from Manchester United for Dan Ashworth.
United want to appoint Ashworth as their inaugural sporting director after impressive spells at the Football Association, West Bromwich Albion, Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle. The 52-year-old currently holds the title of sporting director at St James' Park.
Ashworth is understood to be keen on moving to Old Trafford as Ineos press ahead with their plan to restructure the club's hierarchy. The chemical giant has already poached Omar Berrada from Manchester City to become the club's new chief executive and they are interested in Southampton's director of football, Jason Wilcox.

Though United are prepared to wait to appoint Ashworth after baulking at Newcastle's £10million asking price, there is a growing confidence they will get their top target. The former Brighton technical director has been at St James' Park since June 2022.
Asked what has happened in relation to Ashworth's future this week, Howe, as quoted by the Newcastle Chronicle, said: "Nothing as far as I'm aware. Obviously it's been in the news a lot and usually with these things that means something is going to happen.
"But as we speak now, we've had no contact [from United]."
Though Howe has insisted Newcastle have received no contact from United for Ashworth, he believes it is important the club moves on quickly if he does make the switch to Old Trafford.
"It's an unusual situation," Howe continued. "I'm used to speculation around players but this is different.
