EXCLUSIVE: Netflix is looking to stay in business with two familiar faces as Purple Hearts star Sofia Carson and Queen Charlotte‘s Corey Mylchreest are set to star in the adaptation of the popular novel My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan. The Inbetweeners director Iain Morris will direct, with Temple Hill Entertainment producing. Laura Quicksilver and George Berman are overseeing the production.
Allison Burnett penned the original draft, with current revisions by Savion Einstein. Caroline Levy is executive producing.
The story follows Anna, an ambitious young American woman who, after setting out for Oxford University to fulfill a childhood dream, has her life completely on track until she meets a charming and clever local who profoundly alters both of their lives.
This will mark Carson’s fourth Netflix film in a row beginning with Purple Hearts, which debuted at No. 1 globally on the streamer in 2022 and made history as one of the 10 most-watched Netflix films of all time. Carson also served as executive producer and co-wrote and performed the film’s original soundtrack, which made history as Netflix’s most streamed soundtrack of all time.
Carson then starred opposite Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman in the Netflix and Amblin thriller Carry-On. She will also topline the Netflix rom-com The Life Listfrom writer-director Adam Brooks.
As for Mylchreest, he has seen similar success in the Bridgerton universe, most recently playing Young King George in Queen Charlotte. He also appeared in the Netflix series The Sandman.
Carson is repped by WME and Ziffren Brittenham; Mylchreest is repped by WME, Independent Talent Group and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher.
