That's because even the most unassuming coins could actually be worth a fortune. And a rare 50p could be all you need to get minted.
So what are the valuable silvers to keep an eye out for? Thankfully, TikTok user @coincollectingwizard was willing to spill the beans.
The money buff, who boasts 133,000 followers on the platform, recently revealed the 50p pieces that often ruffle feathers in the auction house.
In a video, titled "Rare 50p coins in your change", they advised: "First – the 2017 Royal Shield 50p, this has a mintage of 1.8million, and an uncirculated condition is worth £7, while a circulated is £1.
"Next up is the Jemima Puddleduck 50p from 2016, this has a mintage of 2.1million. An uncirculated version can fetch up to £15, while a circulated one is £8.
"My favourite design is the Issac Newton 50p, it's £8 in uncirculated and £3 in circulated. Now for the holy grail, the Kew Gardens 50p, this has a mintage of only 210,000. A new condition is around £250, and circulated is £145."
The user ended by mentioning the Flopsy Bunny 50p coin, which can fetch £7 if it's uncirculated, dropping to £5 for circulated.
Meanwhile, Mrs Tittlemouse also got a shout out. The 50p comes with a mintage of 1.7 million, which makes it worth around £5 in mint condition and £3 once it's been around a bit.
The clip has garnered hundreds of likes – and many thanked the coin experts for sharing such valuable information. One praised: "Brilliant video."
