A soldier who was part of proceedings at Cardiff Castle in Wales for King Charles' Coronation on Saturday fainted and had to be dragged away. Footage captured the man collapsing and landing flat on his face shortly before a ceremonial royal gun salute, which was carried out by the 104 Regiment Royal Artillery. The soldier was standing towards the end of the line, and his hat came off as he fell to the ground. Two men in Army uniforms quickly rushed to his aid, as they turned him over onto his back and carried him away, having to drag him through mud and puddles.
The man's colleagues remained undistracted despite what was going on around them. The shocking moment came as millions of viewers around the world watched as King Charles and Queen Camilla were both formally crowned at Westminster Abbey. The King took the Coronation Oaths, swearing on the Bible - marked by the Royal Coat of Arms - to govern the peoples with justice and mercy, and to uphold the Churches established by law in the United Kingdom. For the first time at a Coronation, the King then prayed publicly for grace to be "a blessing to all... of every faith and belief" and to serve after the pattern of Christ.
He was anointed with Holy Oil - the most sacred element of the ceremony. Camilla was crowned as Queen, and presented with a crown and sceptre by the Bishop of Dover. At the conclusion of the ceremony, King Charles and Camilla began the procession back to Buckingham Palace, travelling in the historic Gold State Coach known to many as the Speaker’s State Coach.
