Transport for Greater Manchester has urged train travellers on Tuesday morning to check National Rail Enquiries before setting out as lines continue to be blocked between Manchester and Bolton. All lines between the two were blocked yesterday evening by overhead wire damage near Kearsley.
Passengers were warned on Monday night to expect "major disruption until the end of the day" after the lines were blocked. As a result, TransPennine Express said no trains would be stopping at Bolton.
In a tweet, the operator said "Bolton will not be served. Disruption is expected until further notice.
"@AvantiWestCoast and @northernassist are conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice. TransPennine Express tickets will be accepted for these journeys."
In a post on its website, Northern added: "Damage to the overhead wires at Kearsley means all lines are blocked. As a result, trains between Manchester Victoria/Manchester Oxford Road and Bolton are subject to severe disruption."
This disruption will persist into the morning. It is expected to affect rush-hour commuters.
