Seven men have been arrested after a woman was raped at a house in south Manchester. The property in Fairholme Road, Withington, was raided by police last Sunday and arrests made.
The Manchester Evening News understands police were alerted to the incident after a woman knocked on the door of a neighbouring property asking for help.
One local said: "Last Sunday a house was raided by the police on Fairholme Road. Multiple vans and cars took each man out of the house and put them individually into separate vehicles. The police were originally out around 3am on Sunday morning. Then the police were back with all the cars and vans around 9am to clear out the house."
In a statement GMP said: "On Sunday 14 January 2024, at around 2am, officers were called to a concern for welfare of a woman on Fairholme Road. Police attended the scene and the woman – in her 30’s – disclosed she had been raped in a nearby property."
The victim was immediately taken by officers to St Mary’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) to receive specialised support, and she continues to be assisted by specially trained officers. Seven men, aged between 22 and 35, have been arrested on suspicion of rape. They have subsequently been released on bail pending further investigation.
Detective Vhief Inspector Joanne Johnston of GMP's City of Manchester South District said: “This incident of course, has shocked those in the local community and will undoubtedly cause concern to the public. Rest assured; we are doing everything we can to ensure those responsible are brought to justice as swiftly as possible.
"We commend the victim for her bravery in reporting this horrific incident, and our primary focus is to provide constant and tailored support to the victim
