Furious Scots holidaymakers who were left stranded in an airport for days claim they were offered a £6 voucher for compensation.
They’ve pledged to boycott Ryanair after the “horrendous experience” of trying to get home from Poland when flights were cancelled due to heavy snow.
Glasgow woman June Phillips, 62, said she and husband Frank were among “hundreds” forced to sleep on the floor at Krakow Airport because all of the hotels in the area were fully booked.
June’s flight to Edinburgh was due to depart on Friday, December 1, before it was cancelled.
She told Edinburgh Live: “On Friday, we got through security fine, we were all waiting but the snow was getting really bad and then we were told it was delayed. We could see other flights getting delayed too.
“But we weren’t being told anything, we just sat waiting until at around 1.30am. Ryanair had given a piece of paper to another passenger to read out and he told us the flight was cancelled. The staff didn’t say anything. They didn’t offer vouchers, or suggest any hotels. The main hotel next to the airport was fully booked and the snow was really bad so a lot of people didn’t want to leave the airport in case they couldn’t get back.
“There were hundreds of us. We just decided to stay in the airport. There were families there, the little kids were crying, disabled people, and elderly people, my heart just went out to them, especially the wee ones. But there was nothing, we weren’t offered water or blankets.”
On Saturday, at around 3pm, they were told to go through security to catch an Edinburgh flight. However June explained there were two flights to Edinburgh at the same time and the stranded passengers were left confused, adding that the lack of sleep didn’t help the
