Horse owners fear a noisy bonfire night display near stables will terrify their animals. One woman has even offered to pay for “quieter” fireworks to be used.
The event at Dolphinton, Lanarkshire, will take place on November 5.
Horse owner Deborah Benson told the organising committee: “Modern fireworks are so loud they terrify dogs, cats and horses.
“The field used for the display is next to homes and three stable yards are close by. It takes seconds for a horse to panic and get injured, perhaps fatally.
“I don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun or cost the community extra money. I’ll replace the fireworks with near silent ones and help provide music to accompany the display.” The event is funded by a grant from Black Mount Community Council and it’s understood fireworks have already been bought.

Deborah’s gesture was welcomed by locals on the village Facebook page. One said: “This is an excellent idea. Having had dogs who are terrified of fireworks, I dread November 5.”
Another posted: “Having silent fireworks also means children who are frightened of the noise will enjoy the display much more.”
The committee was approached for comment.
