A Scots cyclist had a narrow escape after reportedly falling into traffic after a double decker bus drove narrowly past on a busy road in Edinburgh.
The rider, who goes by @EdCycleHome on Twitter, was travelling up Nicolson Street in the city on the evening of Monday, March 13, when the incident happened.
Footage shared on social media showas a No.31 bus heading toward the cyclist, who is waiting for it to pass so they can turn right into a side street.
But while waiting, a No. 3 bus drives past on the cyclist's left-hand side, coming within inches of hitting them. The footage shows the cyclist becoming unsteady on their bike - and they claimed they then fell into the oncoming traffic.
EdCycleHome took to Twitter to vent their frustration at the near miss. Tagging Lothian Buses, they said: “I am curious if all of your drivers hold a Valid Driving Licence? Because no sensible driver would do this. I actually got knocked off my bike onto oncoming traffic! Do Better!”
Speaking to Edinburgh Live, they said: “It passed me very, very quickly and dangerously. I came off my bike and seat and I thankfully didn’t fall on the ground if I had it would have been a different story with oncoming traffic moving.
“It was pure shock really and I might have said a few swear words afterwards but thankfully the camera did not pick them up.”
Lothian Buses have been approached for comment.

John Hopewell Chief International Correspondent LILLE, France — The gauntlet thrown down by the opening stretches of Viaplay banner title “The Fortress,” one of nine series in main competition at Series Mania, is to believe that this is fiction. News footage plays of a pandemic, then a war; huge protests rage around the world as Norway’s prime minister addresses his nation to announce that Norway is building a wall to keep everybody else out. That’s been done before (Israel) and in metaphorical terms (Brexit). Cut to nine years later: Norway is a bucolic paradise, Sweden next door a refugee camp hell, until strange bacteria kills fish and then humans, and Norway will, foreseeably, need international help and “what starts as a wall, ends as a prison,” comments Filippa Wallestam, Viaplay Group chief content officer.
