A bungling thief has been dubbed 'Scotland's dumbest criminal' after he left his phone in a taxi he was robbing - with a picture of himself as the wallpaper.
Police have launched a probe after vehicles at Kerse Cabs on Grangemouth 's Dundas Street were targeted in the early hours of Friday morning.
Two cars were broken into at the premises at around 4am.
It's understood a man was caught on CCTV entering the vehicles, which had 'personal documents' inside.
The thug then made off - but he left his mobile phone behind, with a picture of a man and a woman as the wallpaper.
In a Facebook post, Kerse Cabs chiefs said they have now handed over the device as well as the CCTV footage to cops.
In the post bosses said: "Grangemouth's dumbest criminal. Two of our vehicles were broken into on 28/01/22 at approximately 4am.
"Not only was he caught on CCTV he also left his phone in one of the cars he broke into.
"There was personal documents in these cars, so we have informed relevant departments for identity fraud.
"Police now have his phone and CCTV footage.
"We were asked by the female in this photo to remove her face as she has nothing to do with this case."
Police say their enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report that entry was gained to two vehicles on Dundas Street, Grangemouth, in the early hours of Friday, January 28, 2022.
“Enquiries are currently ongoing.”
