The most affordable areas in the UK for first-time buyers have been revealed, and Scotland dominates the list.
New research conducted by free mortgage broker L&C Mortgages analysed UK Government data on median earnings and average first-time buyer house prices in regions across the nation. The results reveal the 10 areas with the best house price-to-income ratio, ideal for those currently saving up for their first home.
According to the experts, East Ayrshire and North Ayrshire top the list for best places for first time buyers in the UK. While the median monthly salary of £2,268 in these areas is slightly lower than the UK average of £2,322, house prices are the lowest in the nation at £103,453 — with an overall house price-to-income ratio of 3.8.
Following behind in second place is North Lanarkshire near Glasgow, which was found to have a house price-to-income ratio of 3.97. Here, the monthly median salary is £2,355, while first-time buyer house prices are reportedly £112,166, making it a great choice for a first home close to Scotland's biggest city.

Elsewhere, coming in joint fourth place behind Durham County Council in England, are South Lanarkshire and Inverclyde, East Renfrewshire, and Renfrewshire.
According to L&C Mortgages, those in South Lanarkshire can expect to get paid £2,432 a month, while forking out £127,974 for their first home. Meanwhile, Inverclyde, East Renfrewshire, and Renfrewshire were found to have a monthly median salary of £2,390, while the price for a first-time buyer house is around £151,264.
Rounding out the top five is East Lanarkshire, which boasts a median monthly salary of £2,060 and first-time buyer house
