Sarah underwent this surgery due to her positive result for the PALB2 gene mutation, which raises the risk of breast cancer when mutated, like the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.
The mum revealed recently that she had underwent gene testing to determine her family's risk of cancer, and due to having the gene herself, this means there is a 50/50 chance she will pass the gene on to her children.
She has four children - Billy, 18, Charlie, 16, Rafferty, 14, and Laurie, 12. Sarah discovered she was negative for BRCA1 and BRCA2 but she tested positive for PALB2, which could have an impact on her children, and potential grandchildren in the future.
