John Hopewell Chief International Correspondent Thanks in part to a strong co-production drive, 13 Mexican-nationality movies play at San Sebastian this year, a major presence.  Perlak frames Alejandro G. Iñarritu Venice player “Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths.”  Much of the heat, in industry terms at least, will come from the the premieres and sneak peeks.   In one highlight, Natalia Beristáin will world premiere “Noise” (“Ruido”), before its Netflix November bow. In possibly another, Mexico’s Laura Pancarte (“Non-Western”) unveils “Sueño Mexicano” as a pic-in-post.

Skyfall director Sam Mendes has said he thinks a woman should direct the next James Bond film.The filmmaker discussed the future of the 007 franchise after producer Barbara Broccoli had said the next actor to play James Bond would be male.In an interview with Deadline, Mendes said that he thinks the director of the next film “has to evolve” after discussing Daniel Craig’s exit from the franchise.“I don’t envy Barbara having to follow Daniel’s [Craig] five movies,” Mendes began. “He reinvigorated the franchise but the franchise is so huge that it’s very difficult for a younger actor to step into that.”Referring to the director specifically, the filmmaker added: “I think that the actor playing Bond is going to evolve, the director has to evolve.

Placebo have postponed their show in Mexico City after the “visa and logistical issues” that forced the cancellation of the band’s North American tour dates had further impact.The London-formed rock band were due to play the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City this Monday (September 12) but earlier announced today (September 6) that the show will now no longer go ahead.It comes days after Placebo pulled their entire North American tour, explaining that they were “devastated” to do so, referencing “issues beyond our control”.They were due to launch the tour in Canada at Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom on Sunday (September 4) before heading to the US.
