Joe Otterson TV Reporter Phillipa Soo is the latest addition to the cast of Ryan Murphy‘s upcoming ABC series “Dr. Odyssey,” Variety has learned. The “Hamilton” alum will star in the series alongside previously announced cast members Joshua Jackson and Don Johnson.
Plot and character details for the show are being kept under wraps, but sources say the series is a medical procedural set on a cruise ship. It is slated to premiere during the 2024-2025 broadcast season. Soo starred in the original Broadway production of “Hamilton” in the role of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton.
She has received Tony, Grammy and Emmy nominations for her work in the smash hit musical, with the last award nod coming after a recording of the original cast was released on Disney+. Onscreen, she has starred in films like “Tick, Tick… Boom!” (which saw her once again working with “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda) and in shows like “Dopesick” and “Shining Girls.” She released her first children’s book, “Piper Chen Sings,” on April 2 via Random House Children’s Books. She co-authored the book with with her sister-in-law, Maris Pasquale Doran, with illustrations by Qin Leng.
She is repped by Authentic Talent and Literary Management, UTA and imPRint. Murphy is co-writing “Dr. Odyssey” with Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken.
All three also serve as executive producers, as does Jackson. Murphy executive produces via Ryan Murphy Television. Eric Paquette, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, and Nissa Diederich also executive produce.
