River City star Iain Robertson has revealed he ended up 'struggling' in his relationship because of lockdown.
Cooped up with his partner, old bad habits returned and it wasn’t until he started filming the second series of his popular walking show Iain Robertson Rambles that he calmed down and returned home a “different man”.
As the Covid pandemic kept rolling back restrictions, he wasn’t able to get his hit of fresh air and peace and quiet.
The Govan-born actor, 40, who was divorced from his first wife in 2009, admitted: “Last April my mental health was not in a good place. I had things going on in my personal life and relationship. We were struggling.
“I struggled in lockdown and my partner and I were pretty much stuck in the same house. She was having days where she wasn’t leaving the house because she was working from home.
“As well the stress in our lives and restrictions in filming River City, I was becoming a reactive person and had worked very hard over the years to not be.”
Iain had also been part of an intense soap storyline which saw his character, Stevie O’Hara, have a mental health breakdown, leading to a suicide bid.
The first series of Rambles in January 2020 had been a huge success and was a perfect antidote for Scots feeling hemmed in by lockdown and restrictions. But Iain had to wait to get out on the hills again. He completed two new walks – the Speyside Way, which he did in March and April last year and the Southern Uplands, which he tackled in July and August. They will be screened across six episodes, with the Uplands featuring in the first three.
He said: “I hadn’t been up in the hills for months because of the restrictions and you can see I’m quite emotional at times.
