Perth city centre pubs and cafes will temporarily lose their outdoor seating areas as work on the £26 million Perth City Hall project progresses.
Businesses neighbouring the future home of the Stone of Destiny will have to remove outdoor fittings and fixtures to allow resurfacing works to take place.
Works on St John's Place, South St John's Place, Kirkgate, Kirkside and King Edward Street are scheduled to begin on January 17.
The museum is due to open in 2024 and will tell the story of Scotland’s ancient roots and the role played by the people and land surrounding Perth.
Perth City Centre SNP councillor Eric Drysdale said moving tables, chairs, umbrellas, etc to make way for the paving works looked set to be a “serious headache” for the affected businesses.
He said: “Practical challenges including arranging removal and temporary storage of substantial external fixtures and fittings were set to be an additional serious headache for café and pub business owners.”
Cllr Drysdale said he liaised with council officers on behalf of the affected pubs and cafés. PKC agreed to provide manpower to the businesses and to also seek to provide secure storage space for their tables, chairs, etc until they can be returned to the cafes and pubs by Easter.
Cllr Drysdale added: “I was particularly concerned to hear of this significant emerging challenge for businesses at what is an incredibly difficult time for them, and so I was delighted to be able to arrange for PKC officers to provide practical support.
“To be fair, the officer I spoke to completely understood the seriousness of these issues and immediately agreed to take steps to help.”
A spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council said: “A major part of the City Hall project is investment

Ski season in Los Angeles? Justin Bieber, 27, wore a strange mask over his entire head on his way to church with wife Hailey Baldwin, 25, in Beverly Hills on January 26. The mask, which didn’t cover his mouth or nose, appeared to be covered with text in a white font that stood out over a black background. The singer also sported sunglasses over the eye holes of the mask, and a hoodie over his head just in case anyone didn’t get the memo that he did not want to be bothered.
The Biebers are stepping out for an evening church service.

Jonathan Cohen Daryl Hall will put the spotlight on his 40-plus-year solo career outside of Hall and Oates with the release of a new compilation and a solo tour with special guest Todd Rundgren this spring. The 30-track “BeforeAfter” will arrive via Legacy Recordings on April 1, the same day Hall returns to the live stage at Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre.“I picked the songs I thought were right and significant and meaningful throughout this whole body of work,” Hall tells Variety of “BeforeAfter,” which spans his 1980 Robert Fripp-produced solo debut “Sacred Songs” up through 2011’s “Laughing Down Crying,” which was co-produced by Hall and Oates’ longtime associate, the late T-Bone Wolk.
“Bless your heart,” a former congregant says to Trinitie Childs (Regina Hall), the first lady of the Atlanta-based Baptist megachurch Wander To Greater Paths. As the film crew that’s been following the first lady for weeks looks on, Childs’ immediate reaction, Hall has always been a killer emotive actor, is to hold back the flurry of insults swirling underneath her polite grimace-smile.
Even right down to the title this religious comedy debuting appropriately today on a Sunday in the Premieres section of the Sundance Film Festival can’t seem to decide what it wants to be. Is it Honk For Jesus.? Or is it Save Our Soul.? OR is it as the credits say both? It is a indication of the main problem with this self-styled satire on scandal-ridden Southern Baptist megachurches. Is it supposed to be a comedy? Or is it aiming to be something deeper and more dramatic? Or is it both? Even for the best of satirists trying to keep an even tone without watching the whole souffle fall is a slippery slope, one that writer/director Adamma Ebo hasn’t quite solved, but not for lack of trying. As many have discovered, drama is easy, comedy is hard.
Peter Debruge Chief Film CriticHow to take on the hypocrisy of megachurch culture on a micro budget? That’s the quandary at the center of the Ebo twins’ “Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul.” An easy-target satire of a disgraced Southern Baptist pastor and the First Lady who stood by his side amidst scandal, packed as a Christopher Guest-style mock documentary, writer-director Adamma Ebo’s indie comedy (produced by sister Adanne) should tickle those who share her skepticism of organized religion — especially the profit-oriented variety — but doesn’t go much deeper than the 15-minute short film on which it’s based. The biggest upgrade here comes from recasting power couple Lee-Curtis and Trinitie Childs with Sterling K.
