Lacking a coherent answer, Sunak avoided the direct question and gave a fumbling reply: "Well morning, er, morning Amanda. I was in the South West yesterday actually, I was in Devon and talking to a lot of people, particularly in our farming communities but more generally as well. I'm really energised to talk to the country about this election."
Ferrari further pulled apart Sunak's troubled background with polling, asking: "When you called the election, the Conservatives were 23% in the polls, they've now gone down to 21%, are you telling me you feel vindicated by calling this election?"
Unwilling to be drawn in, Sunak responded: "The only poll that matters, Nick, is the one on July 4th".
