The local elections are upon us, with 237 polling stations across Manchester helping to elect 32 councillors - one third of the 96 elected members. The polls open this Thursday, May 5, and will be open from 7am until 10pm. If you vote in person, you should have received a polling card instructing you where to vote.
This is the first time since 2018 that many of these seats have contested, and over the past four years a lot has changed. Theresa May was Prime Minister, Jeremy Corbyn was leader of the Labour Party, the Liberal Democrat leader was Vince Cable and the UK was still in the European Union.

Local elections are taking place across the entire of Greater Manchester, with some areas electing for all seats. Different councils operate elections in different ways, and some choose to elect all seats at once while others hold elections more frequently but only elect one councillor at a time.
For some lucky constituents in the Manchester wards, the polling stations are a little different from traditional schools or church halls. If you live in the Woodhouse Park ward, your polling station will be the Romper pub, and if you’re in Ardwick, you get to explore the Elizabeth Gaskell House.
If you have a postal vote, you are encouraged to fill it in and return it as soon as possible. However you are also welcome to drop it off at any polling station in the Manchester city council area on the day.
