Real life of BBC Call The Midwife's Stephen McGann - wife's connection to show, famous brothers and Emmerdale role

He is one of the four McGann brothers and has been a familiar face on out TV screens, including the likes of Emmerdale, for years. But Stephen McGann is probably best known for playing Dr Patrick Turner in BBC One's Call the Midwife.
As fans of the popular medical drama series eagerly await a special Christmas Day episode, it has also been announced that a new series is set to return in January. McGann, aged 60, is married to the creator of Call the Midwife, Heidi Thomas.
The couple, who have a son Dominic together, and are still very much in love after over 30 years of marriage. Stephen has gushed about his wife in interviews and says the pair remain professional when it comes to working on Call The Midwife, making sure they do 'not interfere' in each other's roles as actor and writer of the successful series.

The Liverpool-born actor recently wrote a book to celebrate 10 years of the show, called Call the Midwife: A Labour of Love. In an interview relaying on the show and the importance of the NHS, McGann remarked: "When Call The Midwife began with 1957, we still saw diseases like rickets and TB (tuberculosis) – diseases of poverty and lack of vitamins – as well as the deadly infectious diseases like measles, polio and diphtheria."
