EXCLUSIVE: Rahul Kohli (The Fall of the House of Usher) has joined Prime Video‘s We Were Liars as a series regular, Deadline has learned.
Kohli is set to play Ed, taking over the part from Arsher Ali, we’re told, in a recasting after creative changes. Magnetic, wryly funny, and patient to a fault, Ed owns an art gallery in Brooklyn but spends every summer with his long-term partner Carrie (Mamie Gummer) and at her family’s sprawling summer compound. For nearly a decade, Ed has done his best to impress Carrie’s father, enduring not-so-subtle condescension, but this year, it becomes increasingly difficult for him to hold his tongue.
As previously announced, other series regulars will include Gummer, Caitlin FitzGerald, Candice King, David Morse, Emily Alyn Lind, newcomer Shubham Maheshwari, Esther McGregor, and Joseph Zada. Wendy Crewson is also on board in a recurring role.
A series adaptation of the YA novel from E. Lockhart, We Were Liars is a love story and an amnesia thriller set on a privately owned island off the coast of Massachusetts. It centers on the wealthy, seemingly perfect Sinclair family, who spend every summer on their private island.
Written and exec produced by Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie, the show’s other EPs include Emily Cummins for My So-Called Company and the novel’s author, Lockhart. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Amazon MGM Studios are the studios. Nzingha Stewart is directing the first episode.
Perhaps best known for starring in The CW’s iZombie, which ran for five seasons, Kohli has also been seen in numerous acclaimed Netflix series from creator Mike Flanagan, including The Haunting Of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and most recently, T
