Queen to miss Commonwealth Day service but keep other events

It’s been 20 years since Her Majesty the Queen lost her mother, and a lot has changed for our Royal Family. When the Queen Mother was alive, the monarchy wouldn’t allow royals to wed divorcees. But the rules have been bent in recent times and Prince Harry was allowed to marry Meghan Markle.

Kate Middleton is clearly channeling her inner future queen in Jamaica! The 40-year-old Duchess of Cambridge continued to impress with her fashion while on a royal tour of the Caribbean with her husband, Prince William, on Wednesday. At a dinner hosted by the Governor General of Jamaica Patrick Allen in King's House, Kate wore a sparkling, off-the-shoulder kelly green Jenny Packham gown and emerald jewelry loaned to her from Queen Elizabeth II herself. Pinned to her dress were the Royal Family Order and the GCVO Star. William went for a traditional look in a black tuxedo. Amid ongoing protests surrounding the royals' visit and outspoken coalitions seeking to make Jamaica a republic and to remove the queen as the head of state, William gave a speech at the dinner, condemning Britain's role in slavery in Jamaica. «I strongly agree with my father, The Prince of Wales, who said in Barbados last year that the appalling atrocity of slavery forever stains our history,» William said of his father, Prince Charles.

The Queen is reported to have had a £20,000 "wheelchair-friendly' lift installed at her cottage in Balmoral in order to help with her mobility.

Prince Harry's attendance at the Queen's Jubilee celebrations later this year have been called into question, after he revealed he won't be flying to the UK for Prince Philip's memorial.The Duke of Sussex was expected to fly from the US to the UK to take part in the celebrations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations this year. It was also reported earlier this year that 37 year old Harry could also bring his wife Meghan Markle as the couple were said to be "keeping their diaries free".

Amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine, it is reported that the Queen's private estate is looking to provide homes and jobs to Ukrainian refugees.The move comes after a rural estate in Scotland offered accommodation and employment to those fleeing Ukraine, with Prince Charles also thinking of helping at his Dumfries House estate in Ayrshire. Scottish Land & Estates (SLE) has said that over 40 estates have volunteered to help those fleeing the horrors of war and coming to Scotland.

All those royal divorces may be old news, but the impact they made on Queen Elizabeth was kept pretty quiet.

The British Royal family was on-hand for the Commonwealth Day festivities at Westminster Abbey on Monday (Mar. 14), but it wasn’t that huge of a showing this year. Kate Middleton and her husband, Prince William, were there, along with William’s father, Prince Charles, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. However, notable family members like Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Queen Elizabeth II were absent. Though Queen Elizabeth, 95, recently battled COVID-19, Buckingham Palace announced on Friday (Mar. 11) that she would not attend the service due to mobility issues, per The Mirror.

The Queen has finally returned to face-to-face engagements as she met the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, 50.The 95 year old monarch had been avoiding all in-person plans on her royal schedule due to an extended bout of COVID-19. Aides and medics did their best to help the Queen isolate, as she continued to present with "mild symptoms" of Covid, and she hosted a number of official figures via Zoom and video link.

On Monday, Queen Elizabeth II held an audience with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The Queen is said to have broken royal protocol after Vladimir Putin left her waiting.

The Queen is rearranging her schedule, once again. On Saturday, Buckingham Palace announced that the 95-year-old monarch will postpone the diplomatic reception that was set to be held at Windsor Castle on March 2, amid the conflict between the Ukraine and Russia.  «The Queen has accepted the Foreign Secretary's advice that the Diplomatic Reception at Windsor on Wednesday 2nd March should be postponed,” the statement from the palace read.

Queen Elizabeth is still dealing with her COVID-19 symptoms.

Queen Elizabeth II is still not up for participating in her royal duties as she battles COVID-19. The 95-year-old British monarch was diagnosed over the weekend, and has since had to cancel several virtual appearances. On Thursday, Buckingham Palace announced that Her Majesty was once again foregoing two virtual audiences to focus on her health. The Palace shared that the audiences have been moved to a later date as she continues to isolate with COVID. «Her Majesty is continuing with light duties,» the Palace shared in a statement, noting that no other engagements are currently scheduled for this week. ET did learn that the queen spoke with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson by telephone on Wednesday evening.
