Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Harry had a special relationship prior to the late Monarch's death last year.
Harry, 38, has had a strained relationship with his family since stepping down as a senior royal with wife Meghan Markle in 2020. The couple moved to the US to forge their own path, and have had a frosty relationship with the Royals ever since.
Despite the feud between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royals, Harry always maintained a close relationship with his grandmother. Royal biographer Robert Hardman tells PEOPLE that the Duke of Sussex had 'his own rapport' with the late Queen prior to her death.
The royal author alleged that the Queen was tough with Meghan and Harry when she needed to be, but still offered the couple support. When the couple announced their plans to step back from their working roles within the royal family, the Queen decided they couldn’t be half in, half out of the royal family as they'd hoped.
Hardman said: “There’s no [hemming] and hawing. It’s like, ‘Here are your options, and can we have an answer by Friday?'"
Speaking about how Harry's relationship with his family stands now, a source told PEOPLE: “I’m sure [the King] misses him. Harry is entertaining, warm and very loving as well. And they had a great relationship."
This comes after Harry said his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II "is looking down on all of us" at the charity event. Taking to the stage, Harry said: "As you know, I was unable to attend the awards last year as my grandmother passed away.
"As you also probably know, she would have been the first person to insist that I still come to be with you all instead of going to her."
He added: "And that's precisely why I know exactly one year on that she is looking down on all of us
