Previously unheard audio of Princess Diana has been released where she states that Charles was 'disappointed' at Prince Harry's christening as he 'wanted a girl'.
The tapes were obtained by ABC News and were from Diana's interviews in the 1990s for her biographer Andrew Morton, who went on to publish Diana: Her True Story. The clips, which are set to appear in an upcoming documentary, have been released in the US just days after the 26th anniversary of Diana's death.
In the audio, the late Princess of Wales recalled a story from Prince Harry's christening when her mother told off her then-husband, Prince Charles. Diana said: "At Harry's christening Charles went up to mummy and said ‘We’re so disappointed, we wanted a girl’ and mummy snapped his head off and said you should realise you are lucky to have a child that's normal."
Diana continued: "Ever since that day, the shutters have come down. That's what he does when he gets somebody answering back at him.”
Prince Harry was christened on December 21, 1984, at Windsor Castle surrounded by his royal relatives and godparents.
The new information comes to light just days before Prince Harry returns to the UK for the Well Child Awards ahead of the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf on September 9. The Mirror reports that the new information comes as Harry and Charles' relationship is "rooted at rock bottom."
The new Princess Diana documentary, which was revealed on Good Morning America, is a follow-up to 2017 production Diana: In Her Own Words and will air on Disney+ next year.
Tom Jennings, the producer of both the 2017 documentary and the upcoming one, told ABC: "When the first film came out, people were blown away because they had not heard Diana talk like this before."
He added:
