Police are appealing for the public’s help in tracking down a man they would like to speak to in relation to a hate crime against a Jewish man at a supermarket in Bury.
Officers were called to reports of a suspected hate crime at the Asda store on Pilsworth Road in Pilsworth at around 1.10am on Thursday, March 3. It is understood that a male victim was approached by an unknown male at the self-service checkout area.
The offender then proceeded to snatch the victim’s kippah from his head. Following this, the offender fled the store before running onto Pilsworth Road in the direction of the motorway.

Before the incident, officers were told the offender had been with two other males who left the scene in a taxi. It is believed that the taxi then picked the offender up before heading towards the Darnhill area of Heywood.
Police have now released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to as part of their enquiries. In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “Police release CCTV image following a report of a hate crime in a supermarket in Pilsworth.
“At around 01.10 am on Thursday 3 March 2022, police were called with a report of a suspected hate crime which occurred in the Asda on Pilsworth Road. The male victim reported being at the self-service checkout in the store, when an unknown male offender approached the victim before proceeding to snatch the victim's kippah from his head.
“The offender then fled the store running onto Pilsworth Road in the direction of the motorway. Prior to the incident, it was reported that the offender was with two other males who left the scene in a taxi. It is believed that the taxi then picked the offender up
