A police officer could lose her job after she left a fellow PC in a coma when she smashed a police car into another patrol vehicle.
Ashleigh McAdams ran a red light while scrambling to an emergency incident. The smash left one of her colleagues comatose for days and another still unable to return to the frontline after more than two decades of service, Liverpool ECHO reports.
She walked free from court this week after the conclusion of criminal proceedings against her, but could yet be dismissed from job with Merseyside Police.
The 31-year-old was driving a marked Peugeot 308 with PC Charlotte Waters as her passenger when their car "collided at speed" with another police car shortly after midnight on July 11 last year. Both cars had their emergency lights and sirens activated as they went to separate incidents.
The other police vehicle, a Kia, was being driven by PC Gary Carson with PC Mark Lockett as his passenger, and was en route to a burglary.
They were travelling along West Derby Road in the direction of Liverpool city centre at speeds of between 60 and 70mph. McAdams meanwhile was driving on Green Lane, heading towards Tuebrook, at up to 81mph but slowing to 29mph before proceeding through a red light at the junction with the A5049.
Dashcam footage taken from PC Carson's vehicle showed him smash into the side of the other car, which was attempting to effect a right-hand turn, at high speed before both collided with the central reservation - with one ultimately coming to rest on top of the other, teetering almost on its side.
