On recent singles "Hard Life" and "Running," Manchester, U.K.-born songwriter and vocalist Pip Millett has dealt with heavy issues linked to structural problems in society like racism and the links between poverty and crime. New song "Ride With Me" is more inward looking but no less heavy-hitting with Millett's pillow-soft vocals barely hiding the hurt as she opens up about a platonic relationship gone bad.
Friends will always fall out and have disagreements along the way but on "Ride With Me" Millett seeks wants an acknowledgement of wrongdoing if she's to move forward."You can let me know that you're sorry," she sings over a sultry late night beat. "Trying to brush it off don't do it for me." Later on the beat switches as she finds confidence in her position as if the strong bassline adds muscle to her words.
Either way it's clear that there is no way forwards. “‘Ride With Me’ is about leaving behind bad friendships," Millett tells The FADER via email.
"People often find it difficult to apologise for their wrongs which makes it difficult to sustain friendships." The new song comes with a video directed by KC Locke in which Millett's mindset is reflected by two radically different settings. During the verses, where she is hurting and holding out for a resolution, we see Millett in black and white as a couple argues in the background.
However, comes that beat switch the "you can't ride with me" line is taken literally as she floats 50ft above ground in a vintage sports car. Check it out above, now.
